Ancestor: Robert Turner Holland Jr.

Descendant: Sedate K.

According to my father,  in 1918 my grandfather joined the Marines and reported to Parris Island for training.

He contracted the Spanish flu and he was quarantined while his Comrades were sent to fight in Europe. My grandfather recovered but according to family story, he lived with the guilt of surviving while so many of his comrades were killed in WW1.

My father is now 89 and has lived a rich healthy and active life. He is ferociously independent and I have had to be very firm with him about taking precautions to stay safe during the current pandemic.

I used the story of his father to emphasize the “we” meaning him -- owe it to the sacrifices and suffering his father endured because WE live today. So far he has behaved himself and is following the “stay at home” orders from me (and the Gov of Wisconsin).
